Ford Transit-350, High Roof 148ext – HVAC Service Van Upfit

Our client needed a clean, secure, and job-ready HVAC service van that keeps tools organized, reduces time wasted digging for parts, and helps the driver stay safe on busy roads and dark winter mornings. We built this upfit around one core idea: less downtime per call—with smart storage, real security, and visibility upgrades that suit an HVAC contractor’s day-to-day.

Primary goals

  • Stop the “tool-and-parts scramble” between calls with dedicated storage and grab-and-go bins

  • Protect expensive tools and inventory from break-ins (especially rear + slider access points)

  • Improve road-side safety with high-visibility amber strobe lighting

  • Keep the cab clean and durable for daily in-and-out work


The challenge: HVAC work punishes disorganized vans

If you’re in HVAC, your van is basically a rolling shop. But without a layout that matches real workflow, the pain shows up fast:

That sequence matters. There’s no point building a beautiful interior if it’s vulnerable, or adding storage without addressing the real “friction points” that slow a tech down.


Upgrade 1: Safety lighting that gets you seen (without being complicated)

What we installed

We added amber strobe lighting in two key zones:

  • Front grille: 2 strobes

  • Rear bumper uprights: 4 strobes total (2 per upright area)

  • Control: wired to a single switch for simple operation

Upgrade 2: Real van security with Slick Locks (rear + slider doors)

What we installed

We installed Slick Locks on the two most targeted entry points:

  • Rear doors

  • Passenger-side sliding door

This included:

  • Puck lock kit with 2 puck locks

  • Blade bracket + spinner + weather cover

Why this matters (especially in trades)
Contractor vans are prime targets. HVAC vans often carry:

  • copper-related items and install supplies

  • Top tray kit (12" x 48" x 3")

  • Butcher block work surface

Bins and small-part organization

We added a bin system to keep common parts visible and consistent:

  • Bins for 10" x 36" bin shelf (6" wide bins) (x2)

  • Bins for 12" x 36" bin shelf (6-5/8" wide bins) (x2)

  • Bins for 12" x 60" bin shelf (6-5/8" wide bins) (x1)

  • Bins for 10" x 60" bin shelf (6" wide bins) (x1)

Result: less “open everything and dig,” more grab-and-go.

Hooks + ladder hanger

  • Fixed hooks, 4-1/2" opening (x5)

  • Shelf-mounted ladder hanger (x1)

Hooks and hangers are deceptively important: they stop the “pile effect” and keep high-use items accessible (cords, hoses, straps, small bags, PPE, etc.).

Fit-and-finish fixes

We also handled practical finishing details like:

  • fixing floor issues

  • riveting rear door panels

  • adjusting shelving height as requested

That’s the stuff that prevents rattles, reduces wear, and keeps the van feeling solid.


Bonus details (small touches that matter)

  • 97 dB backup alarm (added)

  • Rechargeable area light (thank-you gift)
